NEW YORK – Lil Wayne heads to jail in February in his New York gun case, just days after his next album comes out.
The rap star’s sentencing date is Feb. 9, set in a Manhattan state court Tuesday. The Grammy winner said nothing during his brief court appearance.
He pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. The charge stemmed from a 2007 traffic stop of his tour bus. His plea deal calls for a year in jail.
Cash Money Records co-founder Birdman announced on his Twitter account last week that Lil Wayne’s next album, “Rebirth,” is due for release Feb. 1.
Lil Wayne is gonna go down in rap/hip-hop history whether your a fan or not. Everything he does isn’t a hit but I’d like to see how he evolves as an artist in the next 5 years. I probably will check the documentary tho when it drops
Vodpod videos no longer available.
Tha Carter IV, the follow up to his 2008 breakthrough album Tha Carter III, will be available on 15 December.
The New Orleans rapper, real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr, also plans to release his much talked about rap-rock album Rebirth before the end of 2009.
Birdman, CEO of Wayne’s label Cash Money Records told MTV: “Both will be out before 2010. We’re looking to take over the game completely, flood the market. The Grammys are ours next year.”
Tha Carter III sold more than one million copies in the first week it was released in the US last year.
He debuted tracks from Rebirth at a series of gigs in London in early October.
